A Recently-Discovered Beethoven Piano Piece
In January, 2020, a piano dance by Beethoven in the style of a Ländler was found in the Vienna City Library by Dr. Jochen Reutter, editor of the Wiener Urtext edition of Beethoven’s works. The “Classical Cake” podcast linked below includes a discussion with Reutter and a performance of the little piece, which dates from about 1790-1792. The podcast also describes how Reutter reconstructed the work and interpreted Beethoven’s shorthand.

This is a very exciting discovery! The new piece was in the same manuscript as the Andante WoO 211, Biamonti 52, which demonstrates there are still Beethoven works yet to be discovered among the well-known manuscripts.
