BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Friday, January 11, 1822
Beethoven today signs a receipt for 30 full-weight imperial ducats in gold for the piano sonata #31, op.110. The fee was received from Tendler & Manstein, a Vienna book dealer that publisher Adolph Schlesinger used as an agent for corresponding with Beethoven and others. Tendler & Manstein deducts a 2 percent handling fee for so acting, which angers Beethoven.
Albrecht letter 283. Albrecht notes that as of 1977, this receipt was in a private collection in Scotland.
