BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Friday, June 14, 1822
Cappi & Diabelli today advertises in the Wiener Zeitung some new arrangements for flute or violin, with guitar accompaniment. These are selections from Der Freischütz, or just the overture from that opera, as well as Rossini’s Barber of Seville, with the overture to that opera available separately as well. Finally, Anton Diabelli offers his own arrangement of the Freischütz Waltz.
Artaria & Co. meanwhile greatly expands its offerings related to Rossini’s opera Zelmira, which is still highly popular at the ongoing Rossini Festival in Vienna. Not only are the vocal score and piano solo version still available, but now also Artaria offers new arrangements of popular numbers from the opera for guitar; piano four hands; voice with piano; violin or flute with guitar accompaniment; violin or flute duet; and string or flute quartet.
