BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Monday July 15, 1822
Today’s Wiener Zeitung at 640 contains warnings of the imminent end of the Italian opera festival at the imperial theater. The administration of the theater commits to the following order of performances to close out the festival:
Monday 15 Zelmira.
Tuesday 16 Corradino.
Thursday 18 Ricciardo e Zoraide, with ballet, final performance.
Friday the 19th La gazza ladra.
Saturday 20 Zelmira, final performance.
Monday 22 La gazza ladra, final performance.
Tuesday 23 Corradino, final performance.
Although the star performer of the festival, Giovanni David, was scheduled to depart on the 20th, the administration of the theater has prevailed upon him to extend his stay for two additional performances, in grateful recognition of the overwhelming applause he has received.
