BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Monday, July 3, 1826
This summer in Vienna is hot, dusty and smelly, as can be seen from the charges for the incessant spraying of water to try to keep the dust down. Everyone who had the time and could afford to do so fled to one of the nearby spa towns and villages. Among them are Beethoven’s friend pianist Dorothea von Ertmann and her husband, Stephan Freiherr von Ertmann, who are currently visiting Vienna from Milan, from the end of May until mid-September. The Ertmanns today leave Vienna and go to the nearby spa town of Baden, where they stay in nr.27, Renngasse. The Cur- und Fremdeliste des Curortes Baden bei Wien, Nr.26, 1826, showing their arrival is attached, at Nr.699. The Ertmanns will see Beethoven again before they leave Vienna.
