BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Monday, March 27, 1826 (approximately)

Madame Gentile Borgondio gives a concert in the small Redoutensaal today at noon. Among the miscellaneous works on the program is Beethoven’s Overture to Prometheus, op.43. Leipzig Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung Nr.19 (May 10, 1826) at 312; the concert is also reported in the Wiener Zeitschrift (Nr.44) of April 13, 1826 at 352, which said, “The orchestra performed Beethoven’s masterful Prometheus Overture very bravely but [François-Adrien] Boialdieu’s Johann von Paris less precisely. The whole thing greatly satisfied the large audience.”
