BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Monday, May 26, 1823 (very approximately)

Beethoven writes an undated letter to Schindler during his stay in Hetzendorf, saying that “Frau Schnapps” [housekeeper Barbara Holzmann] is getting the necessary things, so Schindler should join him for midday dinner at 2 pm. He says there is good news to keep between them, so that the Brain-Eater [Brother Johann] does not hear.

Brandenburg Letter 1653, Anderson Letter 1334. The original of this letter is in the Berlin Staatsbibliothek (aut. 36,5)
