BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Monday, November 1, 1824

Today’s post is by Guest Editor Birthe Kibsgaard.

There is a lot of festivity (concerts, receptions, processions in the city) in Vienna the next couple of weeks because of the upcoming wedding between Archduke Franz Karl of Austria and Princess Sophie of Bavaria. Beethoven probably misses most of it – and to be honest, I think he did not mind that at all. He was very likely still ill and had perhaps not even left Baden yet.

Today the King of Bavaria – the father of the bride – is arriving in Vienna and is received by the Emperor. In the evening the King, the Emperor, the Empress and the Crown Prince attend a performance of Le Nozze di Figaro in the Kärntnertortheater (according to Der Sammler of November 1). Tomorrow the bride will arrive in Vienna with her mother and sisters.
