BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Monday, September 2, 1822

We have another substantial break of about three weeks in our knowledge of Beethoven’s doings. We can assume he continues to work on the Overture to Consecration of the House, Wo sich die Pulse WoO 98, finalizing the Missa Solemnis and getting it ready for the copyists, and preparing scores for Leipzig publisher C.F. Peters, in between taking the baths in Baden. We will periodically have some Beethoven Bicentennial Minutes to comment upon musical news of note during this month, however.

Attached is another picture of the building that housed the inn Zum goldenen Schwann in Baden bei Wien, where Beethoven stays while finding more permanent lodgings, courtesy of faithful reader Birthe Kibsgaard.
