BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Saturday, January 29, 1825

Nephew Karl takes delivery of the firewood that the housekeeper ordered yesterday morning. The total cost, including chopping, cutting twice, and stacking comes to 6 florins, Karl computes. There is another florin and a half due for the driver. Karl makes the payment.

They also need more wine, and Karl asks whether he should send the maid to get it. Ludwig says yes, she should get it, and asks how much money she will need for that. Karl answers 15 florins.

She also needs to get 6 1/2 yards of flannel for their undershirts and underpants, and 7/8 of a yard of cashmere for a vest.
