BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Saturday, June 7, 1823 (very approximately)
In an undated letter sent sometime the first half of the summer of 1823 from Hetzendorf, Beethoven says he will forward to Schindler the missing trombone parts for the Missa Solemnis. If Schindler can arrange for them to be copied and readied for the score, they should be sent back together.
Brandenburg Letter 1655, Anderson Letter 1253. The original is aut.36,56 in the Berlin Staatsbibliothek. This letter probably relates to copyist Wenzel Schlemmer’s work on the subscription exemplar of the Missa Solemnis, and thus an early June date seems likely.
