BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Saturday, October 22, 1825
Today’s Wiener Theater-Zeitung (Nr.127) at 520 includes the following musical announcement: “L. v. Beethoven’s newest quartet in A minor [op.132] will be performed on Sunday, November 6, 1825, in the hall of the Musikverein, at the Sign of the Red Hedgehog, in a private Akademie organized by Herr Joseph Linke. Beethoven’s grand Trio in B-flat major for piano, violin, and cello [the ‘Archduke’ Trio, op.97] will also be performed, with Herr Carl Maria v. Bocklet playing the piano. Tickets are available from the art dealership of Herr Steiner & Co. in Paternostergässchen for 3 florins W.W.” This will be the first public performance of the quartet, which has been heard several times now in semiprivate gatherings.
Just below this is the announcement that the subscription concerts of the Schuppanzigh Quartet will resume for six consecutive Sundays, beginning tomorrow, October 23, from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Musikverein Hall. Subscription tickets are 4 florins C.M., or individual admission tickets for 1 florin C.M. each, also available at Steiner’s.
