BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Sunday, December 3, 1820

After celebrating military Mass for the local garrison at the Jesuit Church (today the Church of St. Adalbert, seen here), Archduke Rudolph has lunch with the Emperor in Troppau today, according to the Troppau Zeitung of December 4, quoted in the Wiener Zeitung of December 9 (nr. 281), and the Troppau Zeitung of December 8, quoted in the Wiener Zeitung of December 13 (nr. 284). The steady stream of confirmations by Rudolph also continues today at the parish church of St. Mary.

So far as Beethoven is concerned, the Archduke can remain there longer since the respite from the demands of lessons is a welcome one.
