BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Sunday, January 15, 1826

In the hall of the Musik-Verein today at the Sign of the Red Hedgehog, the Schuppanzigh Quartet gives the sixth in the ongoing tenth series of subscription concerts. The works performed are Haydn’s Quartet Nr.61 op.76/2, Hob.III/76 in D minor “Fifths” or “Donkey” (Erdödy); a Quartet in B-flat by Mozart [likely K.458; the other Mozart quartet in B-flat, K.589, was already performed earlier in this series and was usually called a quartet concertante], and Beethoven’s Quintet in C, op.29. Leipzig Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung Nr.7, February 15, 1826 at 119. Brother Johann attends, and Nephew Karl probably attends as well.
