BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Sunday, March 30, 1823

The Leipzig Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung for April 30, 1823 (Nr. 18) at col. 279 includes an account of a benefit concert this Easter Sunday for charitable institutions at the Kärntertor Theater. Among the dozen pieces performed, with a heavy helping of Rossini arias, was the fourth movement Allegro molto from Beethoven’s Second Symphony in D.
