BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Sunday, November 20, 1825
The Schuppanzigh Quartet holds another of its subscription concerts this afternoon at the Musikverein. They open with Bernhard Romberg’s Quartet in D, op.7. This was followed by the “Newest Quartet (in A minor) by Beethoven [op.132]. This time it was better understood and received much more warmly.” The concert concluded with Mozart’s Quintet in C minor, no.7 [today catalogued as K.406.] Leipzig Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung (Nr.51) of December 21, 1825 at 842. Nephew Karl likely attends this concert as he usually does.
At the Augustiner Church today, Luigi Cherubini’s Requiem Mass in D minor is performed, with Ferdinand Piringer conducting.
