BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Thursday, December 18, 1823 (approximately)

Beethoven sends an undated note to Ignaz Moscheles at his apartment in Vienna, probably today or within the next few days. In it, he asks for the prompt return of the parts for the Name Day Overture, op.115 and the scores of the other two overtures that Moscheles did not use [probably Consecration of the House op.124 and King Stephan, op.117.]

Brandenburg Letter 1760, Anderson Letter 1043 [Anderson dates the letter to 1820, but that cannot be correct since Moscheles was then in England.]

In Kassel, Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony in A Major is performed today in the third concert of the season, conducted by Kapellmeister Ludwig Spohr. Berliner Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung (Nr.23) of June 7, 1824, at 203.
