BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Thursday, March 18, 1824 (approximately)
Very soon, within a day or two of learning that the application for the approval of the Akademie concert needs to be made at the High Police Director’s Office, Beethoven dutifully makes application with the High Police Director for approval of his Akademie on the evening of April 7, in the Grosser Redoutensaal.
Today’s Leipzig Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung (Nr.12) at 196 includes a brief review of the the first two of the three String Trios op.9 of Beethoven, published by Nikolaus Simrock in Bonn and Cologne, in an arrangement for piano four hands by C.D. Stegmann. “These well-known beautiful trios from Beethoven’s early days (Oeuv.9) are the kind of work that Hrn. St. has arranged for the pianoforte very well in every respect. They are quite advantageous in this form, and not that difficult for the players.”
