BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Thursday, March 3, 1825
Today’s entry is by our frequent contributor Birthe Kibsgaard.
The 20th orchestral subscription concert is held in Leipzing today, featuring Beethoven’s 8th Symphony in F major, along with Grosse Variat. f.d. Pianoforte by Beethoven’s former pupil Ferdinand Ries and Beethoven’s Andante f.d. Orchester, arranged by Ignaz Seyfried. Leipziger Zeitung of March 1, 1825 at 504.
[The latter work was likely one of the “Morceaux Choisis” of Beethoven works arranged for orchestra by Seyfried and published last year. Of this set of five arrangements, only Nr.3, the arrangement of the second movement of the Violin Sonata op.12/2, is an Andante.]
Our next update will be March 5.
