BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO TODAY: Thursday, November 21, 1822

Along with three operas by Rossini (Zelmira, Corradino and Elisabetta), Artaria & Co. advertises the piano arrangement of Beethoven’s opera Fidelio op.72, either with or without vocal lines, in today’s Wiener Zeitung at p.1072. This ad was placed no doubt to capitalize on the popular revival of the opera earlier this month.
