BEETHOVEN 200 YEARS AGO: Wednesday, September 4, 1822

Rossini Fever in Vienna has not abated. Today’s Wiener Zeitung at p.811 features large advertisements from Artaria & Co. for arrangements of selections from Rossini’s operas Zelmira and Corradino for wind band (Militär-Musik), arranged respectively by Friedrich Starke (1774-1835) and Hieronymus Payer (1787-1845).

But Ludwig van Beethoven also gets his due, for Johann Cappi advertises his Piano Sonatas #30 op.109 and #31 op.110 for sale.
