Unused Sketches for the Finale to the Eroica Variations op. 35, Biamonti 319 (1802)
These sketches for the Eroica Variations provide an interesting look at the creative process. Early on in the composition, Beethoven seems to have contemplated shifting the finale to a 3/4 polonaise, which would go into a cadenza. The sketches are found on the front and reverse of folio 83 of the Kessler sketchbook of 1802. This idea probably did not last long, however, since sketches for what did become the Finale to the piece also appear on this page.
Opus: 35
Biamonti: 319
