Ecossaise in E-flat, WoO 86 (1825)
This, along with the waltzes WoO 84 and 85, was published by Mueller in Vienna.
The upward tonic triad (E-flat) - G - B-flat - E-flat is interestingly harmonized with I - V - VI, which reminds us immediately of the last chorus from the Zauberfloete ('Es lebe die Starke', cf. 0:03, 0:11 and 1:03), where Mozart introduces this device. It is the natural by-product of good contrapuntal thinking, and very useful for breathing new life into a melodic line that, in lesser hands, may easily become stale.
WoO: 86
